![]() Reaching the Unreachable HOUSTON – (August 15, 2007)—Reaching the Unreachable According to Governor Lowell Weicker, Jr., former three-term U.S. Senator and Governor of Connecticut, “America should strive to be the healthiest nation in the world, this should be a nation where every American has the opportunity to be as healthy as he or she can be; where every community is safe from threats to its health; where all Americans have a high level of services that protect, promote and preserve their health, regardless of who they are or where they live.” This is a strong yet true statement. However, America has a responsibility to itself to create a healthier society. We can no longer rely on government and social services to rectify a problem we have enabled. The major barriers to quality health and wellness are: poor education, unemployment or low economic status, discrimination and lack of social support. However, The Wellness Outreach Foundation focuses on overcoming these barriers by advocating for health and wellness equality. The Wellness Outreach Foundation was formed in 2006 with a very specific purpose in mind. This purpose is to provide inspiring education and share valuable knowledge on health and wellness. In doing so we are communicating the importance of self-awareness and healthy decisions while advocating for the community in an effort to “Reach the Unreachable”. Through a powerful, strategic partnership with Holistic Wellness Solutions and NationalWay Healthcare Association, the Foundation has organized and is managing Houston’s First Annual Health and Wellness Fair. This fair is designed to explain how health and wellness, while completely different, are totally the same. The fair will consist of health screenings, exercise instruction, wellness seminars, blood drive, motivational speakers, massages along with entertainment and a large children’s play area. This event, on September 22, 2007 from 10am – 5pm at the George R. Brown Convention Center, is FREE to all who attend. There will also be FREE school uniforms, school supplies and prizes given away periodically throughout the day. This is the first of the monthly events we will host around town. This “BIG” event will be annual but we will have the same type of event on a smaller scale each month. The goal of these events is to bring Houston together as a city and teach the importance of becoming the healthiest city in America instead of the fattest city in America. |
